We are working to make our productions more environmentally sustainable. Through this policy, we want to test different methods of working (from the pitching process to the finished film) to help reduce our impact on the climate. It’s a work-in-progress document that will be updated as we find new and more effective solutions for the challenges that film productions face. We welcome your feedback and suggestions on how we can be more environmentally friendly!
FROM PITCH TO POST-PRODUCTION
Treatment/start-up meeting: We inform the agency/client/crew that we’re working towards more sustainable productions and try to propose climate-smart solutions as a response to the different challenges the production will face (i.e. cast, locations).
When planning travel (meetings/scouts), we try to opt for more sustainable alternatives. i.e. train, bicycle, carpooling. And when using a taxi/courier, ask for an electric car/bicycle.
We ask that our teams only order vegan/vegetarian craft and catering for meetings.
We want to use recycled products/material as much as possible, working with rental houses and charity shops. We inform the relevant departments about this policy at an early stage in the production. After every production, we also want to donate as much left over material as possible (to charity shops or rental houses) so that it can re-used.
We are working towards a zero-print policy, but in this transitional phase, our aim is simply to minimise the number of printouts on set. We find out who wants paperwork printed and only print copies for the people who have requested them.
We remind everyone to turn off lights and other electronics when leaving the office.
We recycle plastic, paper/cardboard, glass, bottles and coffee capsules at the office (see ‘Shoot’ below to see how we work on set). We are also currently looking into solutions for recycling food waste.
We are researching more sustainable alternatives in our approach to technology. For example, re-using back-up hard drives to reduce our consumption of throw-away technology. More information to come soon!
TEMPLATE FOR CALL SHEET/START-UP MAIL
We are working to make our productions more environmentally sustainable so that we can reduce our impact on the climate. As a part of our team, we would be very grateful if you could join us on this journey. Feel free to get in touch if you want to know more, or head to our website to read our environmental sustainability policy.
Below are 4 simple things that you can do during the production to help us make more sustainable choices:
We will have recycling bins on set, please sort and recycle your waste.
We’ll only be eating ‘green’ (vegan/vegetarian catering). Bring your own water bottle with you, and we’ll make sure that there’s water available on set.
Contact us if you need the storyboard/shooting schedule/call sheet printed out. We will only print upon request.
See if carpooling or public transport is an option for you. If you fill up a car with diesel, try to use HVO diesel, which is made from renewable resources. Ask us if you need more information!
We want to inspire everyone in the team to join us in making more sustainable choices, so at the beginning of each shooting day we remind the team about the work that we’re doing and explain how they can help us out on set.
We ask that any generator/heating/lighting that isn’t needed is switched off.
We only have vegan/vegetarian craft and catering on set. On the craft table, we try to use ecological coffee and where possible, opt for ecological supplies. We work to avoid all products with Palm Oil.
We’re working to eliminate single-use items. Our first step is to ask that everyone in the team brings their own water bottle to set, and to ensure that water is available for refilling those bottles. In this transitional phase, we use single-use cups made from recyclable and recycled material.
We make sure that no rubbish is left behind (especially in nature!)
We ask any cleaning companies we collaborate with to use environmentally friendly cleaning products.
When planning travel (meetings/deliveries), we try to opt for more sustainable alternatives. i.e. train, bicycle, carpooling. When using a taxi/courier, we ask for an electric car/bicycle.
We ask that our crew turns off lights and other electronics when leaving the office.
We only order vegan/vegetarian craft and catering for meetings.
